— A couple accused of keeping a 19-year-old autistic man locked in a caged bed have been arraigned in a Michigan court.

Huron County Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson says a deputy answering a civil dispute call Oct. 20 found the man in a bedroom at a home in Paris Township, in Michigan’s Thumb region.

Sixty-five-year-old Karen Tolin and 66-year-old Timothy Tolin were arraigned Tuesday in district court on charges of unlawful imprisonment and vulnerable adult abuse. They’re free on $5,000 bonds.

The couple don’t have a listed phone number and couldn’t be reached for comment.

Hanson says authorities removed three adults and two children from the home.

The Michigan’s Department of Human Services says the home isn’t a licensed care facility.
