Ex-Eastern Michigan players plead in assault case
Ypsilanti — Three former Eastern Michigan University football players have taken plea deals for charges of assaulting the cousin of the man who killed teammate Demarius Reed.
The Ann Arbor News reports Darius Scott, Quincy Jones and Jairockeis Jones were each charged with a misdemeanor count of aggravated assault after 24-year-old Demarko Taylor was beaten in August.
Scott pleaded no contest on Wednesday while the other men pleaded guilty. They will be sentenced in January. The plea agreements for Scott and Jairockeis Jones don’t include jail time up front. Quincy Jones could have his records cleared if he complies with sentencing.
Taylor was a prosecution witness at a hearing for his cousin Kristopher Pratt in the October 2013 robbery-slaying of Reed in Ypsilanti. Pratt pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
Reed was a 20-year-old Chicago native.
