Sheriff: West Michigan man hit, killed by tree branch
Jenison — Ottawa County authorities have identified a western Michigan man who was killed when a large tree branch hit him in the chest in the woods near his apartment building.
The Grand Rapids Press reports the sheriff’s office said Sunday that 26-year-old Tyler Hemmes of Jenison died Saturday. Authorities say he was walking with his friends when he started pulling on the fallen branch, which was stuck in trees and suspended off the ground.
They say the branch struck him in the chest and knocked him to the ground. His friends called 911 and he was later declared dead at the scene.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
