Prosecutors: Cops justified in shooting of Michigan man
St. Paul, Minn. — Anoka County authorities say they won’t file charges against two police officers who fatally shot a man outside of a Ramsey day care.
The Anoka County Attorney’s Office said Monday the two Ramsey officers involved in the Aug. 28 shooting were justified in using their weapons against 21-year-old Chaz Havenor of Marenisco, Michigan.
Authorities say officers Jerad Dixon and Richard Webb responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle outside the Learning Lodge day care. They say Havenor jumped out of the car and ran away with a gun when the officers arrived.
Police say the officers shot him after he refused to stop and drop the gun. He later died at an area hospital. His toxicology report showed he had amphetamine and methamphetamine in his blood.
