Teen, 13, accused of stealing, crashing van into store

Frenchtown Township — A 13-year-old boy is in custody Friday morning after stealing a van and crashing it into a liquor store.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred at about 4:15 a.m. at the Frenchtown Liquor Shoppe, 3616 N. Dixie Highway.

Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department responded to an alarm at the liquor store and spotted a male fleeing the area in a dark-colored van.

Deputies pursued the vehicle a short distance and discovered the driver was a 13-year-old from Monroe who had taken the van without permission, using it to crash into the front door of the liquor store.

According to deputies, the teen was attempting to steal liquor.

He is now in custody of the Monroe County Youth Home while police continue their investigation.
