Port Huron police wounded a drug suspect late Tuesday night when he allegedly attempted to run over an officer conducting a traffic stop.

According to the St. Clair County Sheriffs Office, the incident occurred at about 11 p.m. when members of the department’s Drug Task Force requested assistance from the Port Huron Police Department to help stop the vehicle of a person suspected of selling heroin.

When officers approached the vehicle, the driver, a 24-year-old Port Huron man, reportedly tried to run over one of the officers. Two shots were fired into the vehicle, striking the suspect.

He was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Port Huron where he is listed in stable condition.

No officers were hurt in the shooting, which is being investigated by the sheriff’s office, Port Huron Police Department and the Michigan State Police.
