Michigan student hit by car
Cascade Township — Officials say a high school freshman has died after being struck by a car while crossing a road in an attempt to catch a school bus in western Michigan.
The Grand Rapids Press reports the Forest Hills Public School District announced that 15-year-old Lucas Vansprange died after being hit Friday morning. A crisis team including counselors and social workers are at Forest Hills Central to work with students.
The Kent County sheriff’s department says Lucas was taken to a hospital after being hit near Watermark Country Club in Cascade Township. Authorities say a family member of the teen had pulled into the left-turn lane and stopped so the boy could get to the bus stop.
