Man goes to prison in fraud case
Albion — A man who has collected disability benefits for 20 years has been sentenced to a year in federal prison for lying about his living arrangements and assets.
Roger Young’s payments were affected by his wife’s income. So in 2001, he told the government that he no longer lived with her. Yet they remained married and have lived together in Indiana and Michigan.
There’s no dispute that the 55-year-old Young has a history of health problems. But the government says he also has an F-150 pickup truck, a collection of 50 rifles, a refurbished 1969 Chevy Nova and disc jockey equipment. He lives in Albion, 50 miles east of Kalamazoo.
Young says he regrets his conduct. A Grand Rapids federal judge has ordered him to repay $33,000.
