Authorities remove 11 dogs apartment
Lawton — Authorities say they removed 11 dogs from a filthy, one-bedroom apartment in southwestern Michigan as part of an animal cruelty investigation.
The Van Buren County sheriff’s department says the 11 Chihuahua mixes seized on Monday in the village of Lawton included one puppy. The department says there was a large amount of animal feces and urine throughout the apartment and the animals had no food or water.
A neighbor told investigators that the apartment’s resident had left about 3 weeks ago.
No arrests were made. The suspect in the case is a 56-year-old woman. Prosecutors are expected to review the case for possible charges.
The dogs were taken to the Van Buren County Animal Control Shelter, where they were examined and found to be in good health.
