Light planned at intersection where girl killed
Ash Township — A flashing traffic light is planned at a Monroe County intersection where a 17-year-old girl was killed last year in a traffic crash.
The Monroe News reports that the Michigan Department of Transportation has approved the light for the intersection in Ash Township.
Tom and Terry Klocek of Newport had been campaigning for a traffic signal to be installed after their daughter, Chelsea, died following a crash at the site. Tom Klocek says he was hoping for a full traffic signal for the intersection, but he’s satisfied with a flashing light.
MDOT spokeswoman Kari Arend says a study of the intersection determined that a flashing light was best suited for the intersection.
Installation is planned later this year.
