Charlotte — A woman and her son are charged in the death of a 76-year-old relative last year who lived with them at a Lansing-area hotel for years.

The Eaton County sheriff’s department says 53-year-old Robin Sanford and 23-year-old Tyler Sanford face charges of involuntary manslaughter and first-degree abuse of a vulnerable adult. They’re due in court Thursday.

The Associated Press left a message seeking comment with a lawyer listed by Eaton County District Court as representing them.

The sheriff’s department says they’re charged in the death of Nancy Belen, who lived with them at a Red Roof Inn in Delta Township. Capt. Tim Jungel tells the Lansing State Journal Belen was neglected for “quite some time” before she was found near death.

She died in January 2014 at a hospital.
