Monroe — Michigan State Police are seeking information from the public after arresting a Monroe County man who is charged with having a vast collection of child pornography.

David Huntley is in the county jail on a $1 million bond. Assistant prosecutor Michael Roehrig says there may be hundreds of thousands of images. He says it was sorted digitally “like a rare book collection.”

The 52-year-old Huntley appeared in court Friday. He says he possessed the porn because he wanted to investigate the distributor.

State police are investigating whether Huntley had physical contact with children. He was a substitute teacher until 2003.

Monroe schools Superintendent Barry Martin says Huntley worked in the district for roughly 20 days in 2001, but there have been no reports of offenses.
