Funeral planned for woman, 2 kids after shooting, fire
Grand Rapids — A funeral is planned for a woman and her two children who were fatally shot before their western Michigan home was set ablaze.
The service for 33-year-old Debra Sheppard; her 12-year-old daughter, Emma McComber; and 10-year-old son, Corey LaValley Jr., takes place Wednesday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Rapids.
They were found dead March 10 in Dorr Township, southwest of Grand Rapids. A children’s watchdog agency says it’s looking into whether social service workers adequately protected the children.
Corey LaValley was arraigned Thursday on open murder, second-degree arson and gun possession charges. Corey LaValley Jr. was LaValley’s and Sheppard’s son.
