Man held in theft of $600 in coins from change machine

Associated Press

Pere Marquette Township — A 29-year-old man has been arrested after a months-long investigation into thefts from coin change machines in northern and western Michigan.

State police say Tyler Hotaling of Lambertville was arrested Tuesday and arraigned in Mason County District Court on a burglary charge.

More than $600 in quarters was stolen May 28 from a machine at a car wash in Pere Marquette Township, southwest of Traverse City.

The theft is believed to be related to others from coin dispensers in Lowell and Grayling. Two men cashed about $2,000 in coins last June at a Gaylord Wal-Mart.

Hotaling has been released on bond pending a future court hearing. The Associated Press was unable to determine Thursday if he has an attorney.

A second man faces similar charges in Ohio.
