Skateboarders could roll in downtown Grand Rapids
Grand Rapids — Skateboarders and people wearing in-line skates soon could be welcome on downtown streets in Grand Rapids.
The City Commission is expected to set a hearing for April 14, a key step to lifting the ban. The Grand Rapids Press says riding on the sidewalk would remain illegal.
Lynee Wells, a downtown advocate, says skateboards and longboards are healthy options. They’re already allowed elsewhere in Grand Rapids.
City attorney Catherine Mish says a majority of commissioners want the ordinance on the agenda.
