Weather is like ‘a roller coaster ride' in Detroit area
Unseasonably cold weather is expected to continue for most of this week, except for a brief warm-up Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in White Lake Township.
“It’s a bit of a roller coaster ride,” said meteorologist Matt Mosteiko on Monday. “Today it’s going to be mostly cloudy with a high of 34 degrees. Normally it would be around 50.”
Temperatures overnight Monday should plunge to around 18 degrees, Mosteiko said.
It is expected to remain cold throughout the week, except for Wednesday, he said.
“The high will be close to 60 degrees on Wednesday but we’ll have 40 miles per hour winds and showers,” Mosteiko said. “So although it sounds awesome to have a high of 57 degrees, it probably won’t be that enjoyable.”
Thursday and Friday should bring a return to cold temperatures and a chance of a wintry mix of precipitation, Mosteiko said.
“Then the outlook for the weekend is just continued cold temperatures, but no threat of precipitation,” he said. “Friday and Saturday will be dry and then there’s a small chance for showers on Sunday.”
Heavy snow moving east from Chicago will not threaten southeastern Michigan, Mosteiko said.
“Just the northern edge of that is going to clip Michigan, but we’re not expecting to get any snow,” said Mosteiko, who added dry air in the region should prevent any snow from hitting the ground.
While the region may escape the snow, it seems cold temperatures are sticking around, Mosteiko said.
“We had one day that was nice and warm recently, and then again this week we’ll just have the one day that will be warm,” he said. “Otherwise, it continues to be cold, unfortunately.”
