Pennfield Township — Authorities say a woman was critically wounded after being accidentally shot by a 13-year-old boy after they were target shooting near Battle Creek.

The Calhoun County sheriff’s department says they had just finished target practice Monday behind a home in Pennfield Township and were walking back to the house when the shotgun the boy was carrying went off. The woman was hit in the side of her body.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she listed in critical but stable condition. The shooting is under investigation.
