Fire destroys cabin, scorches about 10 acres of land

Associated Press

Chestonia Township — A fire in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula has destroyed a cabin and scorched about 10 acres of land.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle and WPBN-TV say crews fought the fire Wednesday evening in Antrim County’s Chestonia Township. No injuries were reported. Crews from several area departments and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources responded.

Star Township fire Chief Pete Hoogerhyde says crews had the fire under control within an hour of their arrival. The fire was in a remote area. Hoogerhyde says crews had difficulty getting fire trucks into the woods and used off-road vehicles to reach the site.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
