Doyle Township, Mich. — State police say troopers have found the bodies of three family members inside their burned-out vehicle in Michigan’s rural Upper Peninsula.

Detective Sgt. Jeremy S. Hauswirth says the vehicle was on a gravel road in Schoolcraft County’s Doyle Township, about 70 miles east-southeast of Marquette.

Hauswirth says is a statement that the vehicle was no longer on fire when troopers found it about 5:30 p.m. Friday. He says the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The detective says investigators have tentatively identified the three people as members of a family from the area of Newberry and the unincorporated community of Gould City. He says investigators are awaiting lab results to confirm the people’s identities.

The Associated Press left a message for an investigator seeking an update Sunday afternoon.
