Snow flurries back in mix in Metro Detroit
Spring has gone into hiding this week with windchills hovering near freezing and a chance of snow flurries Wednesday.
Tuesday is expected to be the warmest day of the week, with a chance of rain showers and temperatures in the low- to mid-50s, according to the National Weather Service in White Lake Township.
“But the story for (Tuesday) ... will be the wind. It’s expected to be quite windy,” meteorologist Deb Elliot said. “We are looking at gusts of 30 to 35 miles per hour on average, and there could be higher wind gusts.”
Elliot said occasional showers Tuesday could bring wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour.
Tuesday night into Wednesday, temperatures are expected to drop near freezing with a slight chance of snow flurries, Elliot said.
“I don’t see anything measurable showing up on the grids, however, with the temperatures you might see a mix of rain and snow during the morning hours Wednesday,” meteorologist Deb Elliot said.
The rest of the week should remain cold with temperatures in the mid- to upper-40s, she said. The wind is expected to stick around, bringing the windchill on Wednesday down into the low-30s, Elliot said.
“We’re going to keep the wind it looks like through Thursday. (It won’t be) quite as strong through the whole period, but gusty just the same,” she said. “So you’ve got colder temperatures and 20 to 30 mile per hour wind possibilities through Thursday.”
Partly cloudy skies are expected until Friday, when the sun should peek out as temperatures remain in the upper-40s, Elliot said.
The next chance for warmth appears to be this weekend.
“Sunday we get back up into the mid-50s,” she said. “But it’s chilly temperatures all week.”
