Muskegon Township — Authorities say two people are dead and another is hospitalized following a house fire in western Michigan.

WOOD-TV reports a 64-year-old woman and her 36-year-old son died in the fire, which started about 2:30 a.m. Friday in the basement of the home in Muskegon County’s Muskegon Township.

The station says the woman’s 66-year-old husband was taken to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. Names weren’t immediately released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Muskegon Township Fire Chief Dave Glotzbach says crews found only one smoke detector. He says the home should have had at least five.
