Woman charged in 3 deaths dies while in custody
Manistique — Authorities say a woman charged with murder and other crimes in the deaths of three people whose bodies were found in a burned-out car in the Upper Peninsula has died while in custody.
WLUC-TV and MLive.com report 28-year-old Marietta Carlson was taken to a hospital Monday and later died. Details including cause of death weren’t immediately released.
Carlson was accused along with Ken Brunke and Garry Cordell in the deaths of Jody Hutchinson and sisters Carrie Nelson and Heather Aldrich.
The bodies were found April 17 in a car on a gravel road in Schoolcraft County’s Doyle Township, 70 miles southeast of Marquette. A court filing says state police interviewed a man who said he helped Brunke by throwing purses and other personal items from the victims into a river.
