A house fire claimed the life of an 80-year-old Kimball Township woman Wednesday, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, officials said.

Emergency dispatch received a call about a fire at the woman’s home on the 1800 block of Ditty Road between Griswold and Dove roads shortly before 1:30 a.m., according to Deputy Steve Campau.

Kimball Township is west of Port Huron and about 60 miles northeast of Detroit.

Firefighters and sheriff’s deputies responded and found the house engulfed in flames, he said.

Firefighters from Clyde and Port Huron townships and the city of Memphis were summoned to help and the blaze was extinguished after about an hour.

Authorities found the deceased victim in the home.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire, Campau said.
