Prisoner charged in 2012 double homicide, rape in Flint
Flint — Authorities have accused a man currently in an Upper Peninsula prison of killing two men and sexually assaulting a woman inside a Flint home in 2012.
The office of Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton says Marcus Allen Howell was charged Wednesday in the case. Charges include two counts of felony murder and one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Police say the incident began as a home invasion. Howell is accused of fatally shooting 54-year-old Randy Phillips and 40-year-old Patrick Boven, and then sexually assaulting the woman. According to police, the woman had apparent knife wounds on her neck and was able to flee to a neighbor’s house to call 911.
Leyton says new information from a witness and DNA evidence led to Howell being implicated. He’s in prison for convictions including felony assault and carjacking.
