Lee Township — Authorities have released the names of two people killed when an SUV crashed into the Chippewa River after going past the end of a dead-end road.

The Midland County sheriff’s department says the SUV went over a street sign and through heavy brush in Lee Township on Tuesday night before landing upside down in the water.

The department says the 30-year-old driver Daniel Patrick Hill of Mount Pleasant and 53-year-old Mark Troy Goltowski of Shepherd were pronounced dead at the scene. Names were released Thursday and investigators say speed appears to be a factor in the crash.
