Lansing — The 10th annual Farmers Markets at the Capitol are taking place this summer in Lansing.

The Michigan Farmers Market Association is hosting events on the East Lawn of the state Capitol. They kicked off Thursday, with other market dates scheduled Aug. 27 and Sept. 24.

The association’s director, Dru Montri, says in a statement the events aim to demonstrate the impact farmers markets can have on local communities.

More than 70 vendors from across the state were expected Thursday to sell Michigan-grown and produced products including fruit, vegetables, flowers, meat, cheese, baked goods and prepared foods. Music is planned along with cooking demonstrations.

The markets are hosted in partnership with Michigan Food and Farming Systems and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
