Rescuers recover body of teen from Lake Minnawanna

Associated Press

Metamora — Rescuers have recovered the body of a 17-year-old Flint boy from a lake in Michigan.

Authorities say Troy Paxton drowned Thursday while attempting to swim across Lake Minnawanna at Metamora-Hadley State Recreation Area.

Lapeer County sheriff’s Lt. Gary Parks tells The Flint Journal Paxton and an 18-year-old friend were swimming toward the campgrounds when Paxton began to struggle.

Parks says the friend wasn’t strong enough to help Paxton but headed to shore for a boat to retrieve him.

He says authorities were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. after Paxton was spotted going under water.

The newspaper reports Paxton’s body was retrieved around 6 p.m., as his family watched from the shore at the park about 25 miles east of Flint.

Parks said Paxton was a recent graduate of Kearsley High School.
