Garfield Township — Investigators say it appears the deaths of a couple and their two young children in northern Michigan were a “homicide-suicide.”

State police say they found the family dead Thursday night in their home in Grand Traverse County’s Garfield Township.

They were identified as Jeffrey Allan Mendenhall, 54, Tamisha Marie Mendenhall, 34, and their children, Thomas, 6, and Olivia, 3.

Lt. Kip Belcher told The Associated Press on Friday autopsies are being performed and a cause of death hasn’t been determined.

But he said evidence points to “intentional acts” that led to the deaths. Belcher said it’s unclear which parent or both was responsible.
