Man dies after stone house explodes in southeast Mich.

Bridgewater Township, Mich. — Authorities say a 79-year-old man was killed after his southeastern Michigan home exploded.

The Ann Arbor News, WDIV-TV and WWJ-AM report the stone house in Washtenaw County’s Bridgewater Township blew up early Saturday, killing Elwood Hansen and at least one of his two dogs. Michigan State Police Sgt. Chuck Bachmeier says Hansen likely was sleeping in his bedroom at the time.

Police and fire officials say Hansen sold fireworks and explosives were stored on his rural property, but they did not appear to play any role in the blast. Authorities are investigating the cause.
