Greenville — A memorial service is planned for a 4-year-old boy who died after he was hit by a pickup truck while crossing a western Michigan road.

Authorities say the child, identified as Talos Bills, was riding a small scooter Monday in Greenville when he was struck. Police say a teen relative with the boy tried to protect him and was also hit, suffering minor injuries.

Ladonna Weatherly ran to where her son was struck, about a block from home. She tells The Grand Rapids Press she saw “the worst things imaginable as a mother.”

The Daily News of Greenville reports a memorial service is 4 p.m. Saturday at Greenville Community Church.

Police say the 69-year-old woman driving the pickup had a license that was medically suspended. The crash is under investigation.
