Fisherman found floating in Lake Erie dies
Monroe — A fisherman pulled from Lake Erie late Tuesday morning has died, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.
The man, whose name is not being released pending family notification, was wearing a life vest when he was pulled from the water by a U.S. Coast Guard vessel at about 11:30 a.m., officials said.
He was found floating face down in the lake after he got separated from his companion, according to Petty Officer Lauren Lauglin.
“The two men went fishing in individual boats but somehow became separated,” Laughlin said.
“One man went to find the other, but instead found the other man’s boat but no fisherman. He called 911 and we responded. The man was unresponsive when he was pulled from the water near Bolles Harbor.”
The man was taken to a local hospital. It was unclear if the man was dead when he was pulled from the water.
First responders included the Michigan State Police, Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and crews from Monroe and Monroe Township.
Bolles Harbor is about seven miles southwest of Monroe.
