Ann Arbor — The University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute is getting a $10 million donation.

The gift to the Shanghai-based Joint Institute by investor John Wu and his wife, Jane Sun, will establish the John Wu and Jane Sun Endowment Fund. The Ann Arbor school said Monday the fund will support professorships, faculty awards, scholarships, student entrepreneurship and other programs.

Wu says the University of Michigan and Shanghai Jiao Tong University provided him with “deeply meaningful educational opportunities.” Wu earned a bachelor of science in computer science in 1989.

The Joint Institute was founded in 2006. More than 1,280 students study mechanical or electrical and computer engineering at the Joint Institute, which is on Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s campus. Courses are taught by faculty members and full-time lecturers.
