DTE Energy Co. is reporting that 24,000 homes and businesses remain without power as of noon, down from 28,000 as of 6 a.m. Friday.

“We expect to have restored power to most of our customers by midnight tonight,” DTE spokeswoman Erica Donerson said. “The outages are weather related because of the high winds.”

The cold front that brought wind and rain that swept through southeastern Michigan has been replaced by sunshine and drier conditions.

“The western suburbs are already dried out and the eastern suburbs will be next within a couple of hours,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Rachel Kulik, working out of the White Lake Township station. “Overnight, we averaged 1/5 to 1/3 of an inch of precipitation. We also had gusts of wind of up to 50 mph. The high for Friday should be in the low 60s and the night-time low will be in the upper 30s.”

According to the DTE Energy outage map, the power failures are scattered around the metro area. Among the areas with the largest number of outages are South Lyon Township with 1,600 homes and businesses without power; 1,000 in White Lake Township; and 800 in Washington Township.

Meanwhile, Thursday’s temperature of 74 degrees tied the record for Nov. 6 set in 1978. Tuesday’s temperature of 76 topped the old record of 75 set in 1978, while Wednesday’s temperature of 77 smashed the old record of 75 set in 2003.

But it won’t be nearly that warm on Saturday, according to the NWS.

“The high for Saturday will be in the low 50 with mostly dry conditions throughout the day,” Kulik said. “The low for Saturday night will be in the mid-30s.”

The average normal high for November is 48 degrees with an average low of 34.
