Ravenna Township — Authorities say a 10-year-old boy has died after an SUV driven by his 14-year-old friend went off a road in western Michigan and crashed.

Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler says Jeffrey Jennings was pronounced dead at the scene of the Thursday night crash in Ravenna Township and the 14-year-old was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports the older boy apparently lost control of the vehicle on a dirt road while coming out of a sharp turn.

Roesler says the SUV was “almost destroyed beyond recognition.” He says Jennings lived in Ravenna Township.

It wasn’t immediately known how the children got access to the SUV. Roesler says the 14-year-old could face charges.
