Settlement reached in woman’s death at Genesee Co. Jail
Flint — A settlement has been reached in a lawsuit after the death of a woman whose family says she was denied medical treatment for seizures at the Genesee County Jail.
Neal Wilensky, an attorney for Joice Howard’s daughter, tells The Flint Journal the agreement was reached with Genesee County and sheriff’s deputies.
Details weren’t released about the settlement, which the county’s lawyer says came during court-ordered mediation.
Howard died in June 2012 after she and her fiance were arrested on warrants while visiting a relative at Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township. Howard was in a wheelchair because of a fall after a seizure. She had seizures at the jail and died at a Flint hospital.
Two Grand Blanc Township officers also are named in the lawsuit. They deny wrongdoing.
