Storm expected to drop 6-plus inches on Metro Detroit
A relatively mild start to the week is expected to devolve into rain and several inches of snow by Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in White Lake Township.
“Unfortunately it’s still a little bit too early to pinpoint exact details, but it looks like it’ll start off with rain and transition to snow Wednesday night,” meteorologist Rachel Kulik said. “And it looks like snow will slowly start to taper off on Thursday night.”
By early afternoon, the National Weather Service had issued a winter storm watch for southeast Michigan, saying the area can expect 6-plus inches of snow.
It could rain for much of Wednesday during the day, the Weather Service said. Adding to the snowfall in the evening and overnight will be 30 mph wind gusts that could cause blowing and drifting snow.
Monday and Tuesday should stay dry with temperatures near 40 degrees before snowfall hits later this week, Kulik said. Lows could dip close to 24 degrees Monday and 30 degrees Tuesday.
As rain approaches Wednesday, temperatures are expected to start in the mid- to upper 30s before dropping to the low 30s that evening and Thursday as snowfall begins.
After the snowfall Thursday, temperatures Friday should remain in the low 30s while the weekend could see low temperatures dipping into the mid-teens and 20s, Kulik said.
