Storm-snarled traffic forces baby’s delivery along Bay Co. freeway
Monitor Township — Mary Courtemanche hadn’t planned on giving birth along the shoulder of a freeway in Bay County.
But snarled traffic following a severe winter storm and heavy snowfall changed that.
MLive.com reports that Josie Courtemanche made her grand entrance Thursday morning in a SUV on southbound Interstate 75 in Monitor Township about seven hours after her mother began feeling contractions in their West Branch home.
Dad, Darcy Courtemanche, made the delivery.
They were trying to get to a hospital in Midland, but were hindered by the slow traffic.
Mary Courtemanche says they “couldn’t pass anyone and there were so many cars in front of” them.
She adds that after her water broke they “pulled over, opened the door and got” Josie “just in time.”
Josie is the couple’s fourth child.
