Spring temps, rain arrive in Metro Detroit

Temperatures are going to be warm — like 66 degrees warm Tuesday and a low of 52 — and pleasant through early next week, according to the National Weather Service.
First, we must deal with the rain. It’s forecast to begin at around 4 p.m. and will be fairly scattered, increasing as we move into the evening, with a chance of thunderstorms.
Temperatures climbed to 64 at 2:52 p.m. Monday in Detroit, the National Weather Service said. The record is 76 degrees in 2000. Normal high for Metro Detroit for March 7 is 42 with a low of 26. Average temperature is 34.
“It’s expected to be above average all week on both the highs and lows the further we move into the week,” said Elliott.
Wednesday might be a repeat of Tuesday, with a high of 62 and a 60 percent chance of showers during the day; lows will dip to 47 with an 80 percent chance of showers at night.
Thursday will see a high of 56 and a return of showers during the day and at night, and a low of 38, the weather service said.
Saturday and Sunday will see a repeat of the shower pattern, with a high Saturday of 61 and a high Sunday of 54.
Why such uncharacteristically balmy weather?
“There’s a push of southerly winds into this area with high pressure shifting to the east on the back side of that high,” said Elliott. “This strong southerly flow is bringing up both warmth and moisture.”
So yes, it will be warm. But damp.
