Lansing’s mayor wants to set up city hall in new location
Lansing — Lansing’s mayor wants to set up city hall in a new location.
Mayor Virg Bernero tells WILX-TV the current building has “served well for over 50 years” but now needs “major reinvestment.”
The Lansing State Journal reports Bernero says a renovation of Lansing’s current city hall would cost $50 million to $60 million while moving into the 7-story former Lake Trust Credit Union headquarters building would cost between $25 and $30 million.
Bernero plans to discuss the proposal Tuesday in his State of the City address.
Lake Trust moved last year to a new location in Brighton. It still operates a branch location on the first floor.
Under the plans, the police station and 54A District Court would remain in the current 10-story city hall building. It could be redeveloped.
