Lawyers in the Mateen Cleaves sexual assault case need more time so a probable cause conference for the former Michigan State basketball great has been delayed.

The hearing, which was scheduled for Tuesday, has been rescheduled for 8:30 a.m. April 19 at the 67th District Court in Flint.

Cleaves is charged with an alleged sexual assault in September of a 24-year-old Mount Morris woman. He was arraigned on the charge March 16.

Tuesday’s hearing was adjourned by the the prosecutor’s office and the defense attorney to allow the defense to receive and review evidence and other case material.

The case is being handled by Wayne County because Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton has a conflict of interest. According to his office, Leyton discovered his family has a business relationship with one of the witnesses.
