Arbela Township — Authorities say a 56-year-old woman has died after the vehicle she was riding in rolled over into a water-filled ditch along a slick Michigan road.

The crash was Sunday afternoon as wintry weather that included snow and sleet moved through the state.

The Tuscola County sheriff’s department says the crash happened along an icy, slushy road in Arbela Township, about 65 miles northwest of Detroit. Two people were trapped inside. Rescuers freed the 52-year-old man who was driving and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The sheriff’s department says the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Names weren’t released but authorities say both were from Genesee County.
