Police are investigating the death of a baby girl whose body was found early Thursday in a Port Huron Township home.

St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon said it’s not clear how the 21/2-month-old girl dead and foul play is not suspected at this time.

He said deputies responded to a 3 a.m. Thursday call about a baby not breathing at a home in the 4100 block of Dove Road.

Deputies were joined by Marysville Police, Port Huron Township Fire and Rescue and Tri-Hospital Emergency Medical Service at the home.

The baby’s father, a 33-year-old man, told police the child was taken Wednesday to her doctor’s office for a checkup. He said his daughter had been put to bed about 11 p.m. Wednesday. He also told deputies he woke up at about 3 a.m., checked on the baby, found she wasn’t breathing and called 911.

Donnellon said the baby was taken to a hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.

The St. Clair County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to conduct an autopsy this weekend, the sheriff also said.
