Man who was fishing drowns in Monroe County

LaSalle Township — Authorities say a man who had been fishing has drowned in a creek in southeastern Michigan.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Wednesday that the man has been identified as 76-year-old Raymond Pfund of Monroe. The release says the drowning took place in Otter Creek in LaSalle Township.

The release says dispatch got a call Wednesday that someone had fallen off a bridge into Otter Creek. According to the sheriff’s office, paramedics removed Pfund from the creek and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office says Pfund had been trying to take a fish off of a fishing pole line when he fell into the creek.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident remains under investigation.
