Plenty of sun in store for weekend
The perfect beach or pool weekend is approaching Metro Detroit, with sunny skies, low humidity and near 90-degree temperatures gracing the forecast.
“It’s going to be dry and it’s going to be warm,” National Weather Service meteorologist Dan Thompson said from the White Lake Township office. “We’re looking at highs Friday in the mid 80s and for Saturday and Sunday, the upper 80s.”
Sunday’s temperatures are expected to clock in around 90 degrees, which is a solid 10 degrees above normal, Thompson said. The average for June 19 is 80 degrees while the record high was 95 degrees set in 2012.
“For the most part, there might be a couple clouds during the day but there should be plenty of sunshine,” Thompson said of the weekend forecast. “And the humidity is not going to be too bad. It’s going to increase a little bit by Sunday but still not anything too bad.”
The hot and dry conditions should stick around Monday, with temperatures topping 90 degrees. But as day turns to night, rainclouds may gather.
“We’ve got a cold front moving through later in the day, so that’s going to give us a chance of showers and thunderstorms later in the day and in the overnight hours,” Thompson said of Monday’s forecast.
Some of the storms may end up severe, but it’s too early to know with certainty, he added.
