A 60-year-old Carleton man was killed early Monday morning in a single car crash in Frenchtown Township, authorities said.

Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone said the victim has been identified as Martin W. Washington.

His office continues to investigate the crash, which happened at about 5:20 a.m. on Stewart Road east of Bluebush Road.

He said anyone with information about the crash should call 734-240-6015.

Malone said in a statement it appears Washington was driving a blue Chevrolet Silverado east on Stewart when he crossed over the road’s center line, entered into the north side ditch and struck several small trees before coming to rest.

It’s not known why the driver left the road but it doesn’t appear that speed was a factor in the crash, he said.

Emergency medical personnel transported Washington to a hospital in Monroe where he was pronounced dead.
