Chassell — The body of a 43-year-old Ishpeming man has been pulled from about 280 feet of water in Keweenaw Bay off Lake Superior.

State police say a remotely operated vehicle recovered Steven Chartre’s body Tuesday near the sunken boat he had been in with his young son and another man.

They were on a fishing trip when the boat disappeared Sept. 17.

Two volunteer search and rescue organizations using sonar found the sunken boat about 12:45 p.m. Saturday and recovered the bodies of Ethan Chartre, 9, and Keith Karvonen, 61, of Atlantic Mine.

Investigators have been unable to determine what caused the boat to sink.
