1 killed, 8 wounded at Grand Rapids party

A 21-year-old man was killed and eight others were wounded in a shooting at a large party in a strip mall early Sunday in Grand Rapids, police said.

Grand Rapids Police said the shooting happened around 3:45 a.m. in the 1800 block of 28th Street Southeast. While officers were responding to a complaint about the party, they were notified of the shooting and upon arrival discovered it was a multiple shooting scene.

Police say a group of more than 60 people was at the party.

Sunday afternoon, police identified the dead man as Juwan Boykin, 21, of Grand Rapids.

Four of the wounded victims are women, ages 19, 24, 35 and 35. The remaining four are men, ages 20, 27, 29 and 34.

Police have not yet made an arrest and are seeking tips in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call (616) 456-3400.
