A house fire that started early Tuesday morning in Monroe Township claimed its second victim a day later, authorities said, as a 70-year-old man who was injured in the blaze died from his injuries Wednesday night at a Toledo hospital.

Alex Johnson, 70, died 5:55 p.m. at St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo, a day after an 18-year-old man who also lived at the home died. Multiple generations of the family all lived together under one roof.

The Monroe County Sheriff's office said the elderly victim had "suffered serious burns" at the scene before being taken to the hospital.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was notified at about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday of a housefire on the 14000 block of Tiara. When they arrived, they found the home “fully involved with fire.”

Local fire departments joined them at the scene.

Firefighters entered the home to find an 18-year-old man dead. Monroe, La Salle, and Ida townships, and city of Monroe fire departments all assisted in extinguishing the fire. The Michigan State Police fire marshal will aid in the investigation going forward.

Two others, a 74-year-old woman and a 42-year-old woman, were at last report in stable condition at St. Vincent’s.
