Around 4,500 DTE Energy Co. customers were without power Tuesday due to high winds in the Metro Detroit and Thumb areas, according to company officials.

"We're trying to have full restoration by tonight," spokeswoman Amanda Knaebel said shortly before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The number of outages had gradually dropped from around 12,000 earlier Tuesday.

"A little after 4 a.m. we were around 12,000 customers without power," spokesman John Fossen said shorty before 8 a.m. Tuesday. "And that's scattered, from the Thumb to the west side of the Metro area."

No one community appeared harder hit than others.

"We're working as quick as we can to get people back online," Fossen said.
