Michigan women prep for March on Washington

The Detroit News

A group of Michigan women is headed to Washington with a purpose — and signs.

The Women’s March on Washington-Michigan Chapter held a sign party and rally Wednesday night — the “Motown to March Sign Party” in Detroit to create posters, discuss logistics and have a safety/security briefing ahead of a massive event in the nation’s capital this weekend.

On Saturday, more than 200,000 women, including about 7,000 from Michigan, are expected to join what’s been billed as the Women’s March.

Banding together the day after the presidential inauguration, organizers say the march focuses on uniting women on issues such as reproductive rights, equal pay, and lesbian and gay rights.
